I have posted some questions here before on flow advice . I have a 128 gal. RR Oceanic 60"X29"X18". I am going to add a 6000 followed later by another 6000 or wavebox w/ multicontroller.

My question is on return flow. I currently run two Mag 9.5's to my two returns with one teed off to a small refugium w/ a ball valve slowing the flow. I have read Roger mention that he prefers a slow flow thru the sump. With the above combination of streams and/or wave box, would my return flow be too much?

Thank you.

That really is personal preference. I just find low flow through a sump is quieter, the skimmer works better, the osmolator will work more reliably, and the energy consumption is lower.

I really have no basis for comparison. Based on your experience and/or opinion, would you consider this amount of flow slow or fast?

What about a Mag-12 for the return on a 215 gallon? Slow or moderate? There will be an ASM G-4 skimmer in the sump. Is the Osmolator 3155 the newest version of top-off from Tunze? Should there be any problems hooking the Osmolator sensors to an Oceanic 3 Sump? Do you recommend the Kalk kit to go with the Osmolator? Thanks for your time Roger, I am in the final stages of setting up my 215reef. I have 2-6100's and a 7095 paid for and on back order. I already got the magnet holders for them in.

Mag's are reliable and not to expensive but they do add a fair amount of heat. Seeing as you will have a predrilled Oceanic sump I would get a GRI external pump, they are air cooled and don't add much heat. The 3155 is the new version of the Osmolator, it has been out for 4 years and won't be chnaged anytime soon. The Calcium Dispenser is a good adjunct to a calcium reactor, it helps eliminate free CO2 and raise alkalinity. Everything is pretty compatible with those Oceanic sumps.

So you think the Mag drive will add heat even if it is mounted externally on the sump? What about the flow rate, will it be slow enough for the skimmer? The skimmer is run by a Sedra 5000 pump which I believe runs 500 gph. Thanks again.

Don't externally mount a mag drive, the seal isn't that great and they tend to leak. Water cooled pumps are just that and regardless of how you mount them they add heat. For that size tank about 800-1200gph would be fine.
