AEFW Cure

There is no Magic Bullet. It is a process.

If you got them, you are in for a long haul!

remove all acropora sp. from display tank. Dip corals in revive, coral rx, or levamisole and repeat the dips found here on rc 5-6 times over the course or 2months. Or better yet, if the acros are just frags, just throw them away to be 100% you got rid of them and dont add any acros to the tank for atleast 2-3 months.

Can't say it any better!!!!
I added a separate frag tank and was easy to treat and speeded up things!!!
Good luck

I just baste my acros with a turkey baster, or a maxijet. Fish eat what floats off. I'm sure I have a few floating around in the tank, but not enough to damage anything. If you have frags.. I wouldn't toss them, they are the easiest to treat and handle. Dips can be harsh I wouldn't dip anything unless you know that specific acropora can handle it. I found out the hard way when I initially over reacted to finding aefw.. Now it's been 8months since I initially found them. I haven't lost a single acropora to them since I started basting as my primary means of control, and dipping only the pieces that I find anything on and I am 100% certain can handle the dip.

I completely agree with dipping and basting helps keep them in check. sounds dumb but it works. another plus is it helps keep your rocks clean.

Not worth it. I did the toss, qt, "go without". There is no way to ever be 100% sure will never get them again. Yes there are ways to be careful but if you want to keep acropora it's a part of reefing, it's a risk you take. You can toss 5k worth of acros restock in a fresh new tank only to get them a couple years down the road on a piece of live rock that happened to be next to an acro at some point that had them. Why take extreme measure.. It's easier just to take the simple route baste your corals enjoy the extra detritus clean up and move on with your life. (or just don't keep acros at all).

Dont "œtoss your acros." Thats obtuse. Good advice so far = turkey baster, wrasse, whatever lives lives sort of thing. Lots of successful people thrive with sps bugs. Just don't destroy your tank trying to erradicate a perceived threat that isn't that bad.

I have a Christmas wrass and a melenarious wrass in my tank and they seem to do a good job keeping them in check. they hang around the corals I'm basting and eat whatever comes off of them.

Have you actually had AEFW? I have and lost thousands of dollars worth of acros, and turkey basting didn't do a thing. Like I said, if I was to get them again I wouldn't waste my time trying to live with them, it would be time to cut my losses.

Send them to me next time I'll pay for shipping. Basting works, use a maxijet 1200 if a turkey baster isn't doing the job.

Got rid of mine with daily basting, increasing the flow and adding several yellow Coris wrasses and 6-line wrasses. Been gone for 2 months. But this was just announced:
http://www.korallen-zucht.de/en/shop/products--technology/problem-solving/4850_flatworm-stop.html

Looks interesting but pricey.

just my guess.

but the slimey acros, do not get hit by AEFW ...

now if we could make SPS slime ....

the product just helps SPS recover and stay strong, doesnt do nothing to the flat worms.

I am curious how one dips large acros encrusted onto large rocks that have other corals also encrusted to the same rocks? It might be odd to say but i have no idea what it must be like to totally dismantle your tank, take out half your corals, and basically destroy the current setup. It sounds insane.
