AEFW medication

reefsahoy

I can see thru you!
I was looking how to get rid of flat worms in our aquariums and found that salifert makes a reef safe medication for tanks. I personally don't have flatworms myself but was wondering if anyone has used this medication? The medication is called Flatworm exit by salifert. Just looking to be proactive in the event i ever get those nasty buggers.

People have been using Fluke Tabs that were/are availible at Big Als in the treatment of flatworm, specifically Acropora Eating Flat Worms, AEFWs.

yeah but this claims to be reef safe so you don't even have to pull out the corals? just wondering if anyone tried this medication out and if it actually worked as claimed?

Flatworm Exit has worked for me many times. I was always very careful, had lots of carbon and water on hand and didn't deviate from the instructions.

To my knowledge there in no medication you can use "in tank" to treat for AEFW. Just be careful, no medications mentioned will give 100% results against these buggers!

can i assume you used it in your reef tank successfully? did you rid the eggs from the acros or did the flatworms returned or was it another infestation due to nonquarantine addition to the tank?
thanks

Flatworm exit will not work for AEFW in the tank! The high dose you would need to use would affect your tank negatively.

Reefsahoy, The Flatworms that the Salifert's Flatworm exit kills are Planaria which are totally different than Acro Eating Flat Worm.
AEFW will not be affected nor kill by this product, there is nothing in the market yet that is effective at killing this bugs in tank

Yes it works as they claim, and it is fairly safe if you stick to the instructions and vacuum as many FW out of the system as possible, The biggest issue with this medicine is not that much the medicine itself but the toxicity of the fluids they release in your aquarium aquarium after they die.

I think it is important to point out that they don't claim that it works on AEFWs though. Right Rogger?

thank you guys very much! i was just listing it here to see if anyone used it and if it actually worked. noone had mentioned this medication before so i wasn't sure if it was new or what. this is great info. i guess quarantine is still the way to go.

there is a product that is fairly new (2 years) made by Tropic-Marin and it is call "total coral cure" they actually claim in their label to kill AEFW among other parasites, but it is not a tank treatment but rather a dip for new corals or coral that you suspect may be infected.
The only LFS that I knows stock it is Reeflife.

Rogger, is this different than TMPCC (Tropic Marin Pro Coral Cure)? if so, it's probably the best iodine dip out there, but it still doesn't do anything to AEFW eggs. Even after a dip, you still have to examine each piece VERY carefully.

No difference, that is the product & that is correct eggs will not be killed.
