I need to order a new pump/powerhead for aerating my Brute water storage can...what do you use?(size, Brand...) Thanks everyone!:bounce2:

very small and cheap one ,don't worry it just need a little air and movement .don't go out and spend a bunch or money ,you may have something laying around .

I always used an MJ1200 with a Sureflow mod. Probably more than I really needed for aeration, but it worked very well to mix the salt. Plus, I didn't bother running it 24/7. From what I understand (as well as my own experience), unless the salt contains organic material (for instance, I believe Reef Crystals does), you really don't need to keep it aerated. If we're talking fresh water, this definitely is not necessary.

i didnt know that RC had organic matieral in it but i use that salt and dont aerate my water i just have a mag 7 keeping up a good flow in a 44gal brute container .

MJ1200. I placed the MJ in the top 1/3 of the container and used a tube attached to the intake to suck water from the bottom 1/3.

I just have a Koralia 2 (600 gph) in my brute. Sometimes I also a plain ole' maxijet 1200.

Indymann99 thats so funny as i have almost the exact setup as yours ,i too use the mag for waterchanges above my basement and it works great .

I didn't know this either until recently. Randy over in the chemistry forum mentioned it in one of his posts. I don't know the details, so hopefully I'm not misquoting him. I used Reef Crystals for years, and generally only ran circulation a few hours before a water change. The water seemed fine, and certainly didn't appear to have any detrimental effects on my tank, but it sounds like I probably should have been keeping some circulation going in there.
