I was recently talking to a fellow reefer and he stated that I should have a air stone in my tank supplying my tank with air.. He said it has something to do with CO2 dissolving or something...

My question is if I do can i simply put one in the sump and will that be enough...

the only thing you'll gain by adding an airstone is allot of salt creep. your overflow and surface agitation as well as the skimmer all promote gas exchange to adequate levels.

Worth the chance of any salt creep (I get none)...put one in sump. Good insurance.

If your running a skimmerless system, it may be beneficial, but a good skimmer will work much more effectively.

I think the original question was as to whether an air stone will help displace some of the carbon dioxide out of the tank.
And I think the answer is no----the skimmer does that job??

Agreed, a good skimmer should essentially saturate you O2 levels...

saturation of O2 and CO2 levels are completely unrelated the airstone is intended to off gas CO2 and prevent it from depressing pH...............but as water passes through the overflow and down to the sump, is injected through a skimmer as well as surface agitation from pumps and the water falling to the sump, the addition of an airstone isn't of any significant benefit and as those bubbles pop and send those tiny drips of salt spray flying you'll get salt creep unless you live in the magic kingdom of Silverdale, WA i guess.
