damn thats a badass fish!! Dont know what kind it is tho. That kinda looks like live rock behind it, with some coraline.

Yea, that kinda threw me off too
I assume its a freshwater cichlid but looks to be a marine background.
I don't know the source of the photograph unfortunately

good eye brother... def. not a african cichlid... LOL... the shape of the head and mouth gives it away as a marine fish... and the coraline algae on the rocks too...

c'mon kevin... you can't even tell the difference between a freshwater fish and a saltwater fish...¿¿¿¿ HAHAHHADKLFJHKDSLFHKLJDFAKFHHFFKHKLFDJLKFSD:

Hey, I'm just the man behind the curtain........I'm no fish expert by any stretch of the imagination, LOL

Far too busy flushing out the nuthuggers to pay much attention

yea, had me scratching my head on that one.......does coraline algae grow in freshwater lakes too, or only green algae?

If not, why?

when i had my lake tanganyika setup, i had this purple algae growing, but it wasn't encrusting like coraline... it was a short filamentous stuff... but almost the same color... i got it because i had good lighting, high calcium, high DKH, and high PH around 10.5... the fish loved eating that stuff, and only grew on my rocks... it was purple/pink...

but no... coraline does not grow in saltwater... it will die... but you can have other color algaes growing in freshwater... green, brown, red, pink, purple and blue... almost the same as a reef...

Believe or not I have purple algae growing on a piece of lava rock in my cichlid tank. I moved the rock into a new tank and it retains the purple algae mostly in patches. It's not thick like coraline but it's definitely not the usual brown green fresh water algae I'm used 2.

Reminds me a lot of a marine betta. Nice fish!

The Marine betta - Calloplesiops altivelis is related to the Plesiops, they are in the same family - Plesiopinae

Assessors are also in this family.

The Blue Devil comes in from time to time and is fairly pricey.
