After cycle no sign of any alge growth

I am new here and so far searching through various threads have answered most of my questions. Here is one i haven't found.
My tank is about two weeks old and has completely cycled. Ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 10. (Reading today as of today). I plan on starting to stock it later on in the week with a CUC, but my question is. I have not seen any type of alge growth. Is that normal? I haven't performed a water change yet as i am waiting until wed when my lfs has half off r/o salt mix.
29 gal biocube
30 lbs nature's ocean live sand
27 lbs LR
A jug of nutri-water

Nothing is in the tank other than a few amphipods scurrying around

Are you sure it did cycle? Did you ever have an ammonia spike? With a quick cycle it is not unusual for algae to not be present yet.

haha yea its coming for sure if not your cycle might be really slow.i have had a couple tanks one of my 20 gallons didnt sprout algae for a while then one night it hit hard i had to do a big water change on it and a good hour of scrubbing

My second tank took close to a month before the algae hit. But just when I thought I was in the clear my tank got slammed with algae lol

I doubt you had an actual spike, ive always waited more then a month. And have monitored the water to see a clsar spike. You dont to waste money take your time and do it right the first time

Yeah, Ammonia went up to about 4ppm with Nitrites at 0, then 2 days later when I tested again it was at .5 with Nitrites about 8ppm. I tested every day after that and Nitrites fell from there and now those two are showing zero with 20ppm Nitrates. When everyone talks about a "spike" how high do they mean?

I hear people saying that it took months for their tanks to cycle and others saying a few weeks. For now, I am in no real hurry and my original time frame that I was guessing was around was mid Dec anyway.

Should I still be testing the water frequently for another couple weeks and if everything still looks good then start adding. The lights have been kept off aside from 15 minutes here and there to look around. But as much as I say that I am patient, the waiting around is excruciating.

each tank is different. since ammonia and nitrites are zero, do a wc to lower nitrates and then you can add a couple pieces of coral. add your livestock slowly. meaning-add some pieces, wait a few weeks before adding more. with a BC29, 3-4 fish is about as much LS you want to put in. you will get algae and diatoms, just depends when.

I am still a student but that sure sounds like a cycle to me by the definitions I have read here. If it is not, I am going to be confused again.

Algae on back of tank

Algae on back of tank

I have some brown algae on the back of the tank.,tanks been running over a month and I have a Zebra Fish, Yellow Eyed Tank, 2 Clowns, Cleaner Shrimp and a Royal Gramma....I keep both sides and the front spotless but haven't done anything with the algae build up on the back painted black part. Is that ok to leave there? I don't have any algae anywhere else in the tank and my Yellow Eyed Tang seems to enjoy eating that....[/ATTACH]

It will come once you run the light all day for a few days. But like everyone else said when it does come you will only be happy that first day. Good luck
