From what I understand, the AGA MegaFlow is the same as the AGA standard corner overflow except that it is on the back of the tank instead of the corner, Right? should I go with the MegaFlow or Corner? This is for an AGA 90 gallon.

I don't see why anyone would choose the corner unless they had space issues. Having the overflow on the outside frees up room for landscaping and makes the tank look more clean.

I do not believe that statement is totally true. I think the Mega flow is larger which gives more surface area for the water to flow into the overflow. Basically more slots lets more water into the overflow. Also the new plumbing (durso type) helps with the flow...

MegaFlows

I have 2 separate tanks One with Mega and one without. As far as I am concerned the flow rates are NO better with either one . Your still limited by the size of the bulhead through the tank. My 155 and a20 both use an Iwaki 70 that has to be throttled back on both tanks. Matter of preference......corner or back overflows. I can take them or leave them. The durso type overflow is just as quiet which I use on the 120. The Mega on the 155 is just as quiet. PICK ONE and go with it.

Your flow rates may be no different, but the actual overflow that has more area for water to flow over will handle more flow as long as you can get it to go down the drain...I run close to 1000gph thru a AGA corner overflow, I had to open the teeth on the overflow up to handle this, and make my own standpipes but I did not increase the drain size...If a Megaflow was available for my tank I probably would not have had to open the slots up on the overflow because there would have been more slots for water to flow thru...There is a difference in the 2 overflows....

I voted "corner" because the through-the-bulkhead flow rates are the same and I think the megaflows positioning 1/3 of the way into the tank looks absolutely stupid.

owned both

corner is way better. in terms of landscaping

the megaflows are stupidly placed

sound is exactly the same if you make dursos'

I've got the megaflow and I've worked with corners. To be honest, except for one aspect, I think its a toss up. However, that one point is rather critical.

In my system, one of the MH SE bulbs is directly in line front to back with the overflow. I have to wonder what they were thinking because that placement is really ineffective. You end up with outstanding illumination of the drain. I'd rather have had the area for a nice Crocea. Next time, overflows and drilling in the corner for me.

I have the corners. It's nice but it makes the tank look smaller. Sounds dumb but it's true. You can aquascape around the megaflows. You also see the garbage in your overflows for the corner. Water also does flow faster into the center ones since it is larger with more slats. My water level on mine is always higher then my buddies who has the megaflows. I like how I can see the whole back but from the side, it makes my tank only seem like it is 18" deep instead of 24". I'd rather have one larger center overflow but that's just me.

The overflow isn't on the outside its inside but in the middle of the tank, against the back wall. The middle would be better than either corner, it services a greater area of the tank.

I am going to have a sequence dart on a cloed loop so I do not think the decision should be based on how much water out of which area of the tank the overflow will suck in. I will have relly good water movement.

The Mega overflow pulls water from the surface, middle, and bottom whereas I believe the standard is smaller and only pulls the water from the surface.

The standard pulls from the bottom and middle too. However the inside is a smaller surface area and smaller slats so flow is slower. However I had 1100 gph going through them with no issues at one point.

I'm not so sure those slots in the bottom and middle of the megaflow are really that effective. At least in my tank, the majority of the flow into the sump comes from the top of the megaflow partition. Might be a little from from the middle slots, but when I'm squirted a bit of DT's down there, it drifted by and wasn't pulled into the megaflow. I think those lower and middle slots are one of those things that looks and sounds appealing but differ somewhat in practice.

The megaflow is ahead with 12 votes and corner with 8 but not many people are saying why they voted for which. right now I believe corner is making a stronger defense but not by much. It seems like a matter of preferance. I still want to see more votes.
