Age of pumps

Roger,
Is there a way to tell the age of a 6000.
I've noticed that one of my 6000's has a grid style piece over the output but the other just has a + stlye to it, should there be a cover and/or does this grid style reduce flow any?

The grid was a new part added at the end of last year. It does reduce flow but it was added to address complaints of fish entering the pump.

On the back of the pump is a three digit code embossed on the plastic, it is between the swivel arm mount and the label. It decodes as series, quarter, year.
