AgentSPS' 300 Gallon ***DreamReef***

Damn Steve those are some nice wrasses you got there! Is the potters eating yet? Remember to hook up the PEMysis. Omega 3 is off the charts.

If you ever need a Redtail or potter let me know. I will send you couple :D. I did get couple 16 oz sheet. They are a bit pricey but well worthies. I need to find a place to order some Live pods...

I have a simple tutorial of what to do in Photoshop. It works for PS 7, but the same rules apply in CS3 and CS4. If you are downloading RAW images, it will not include the first step (which is to choose the color spectrum), but after that what I share applies.

Let me know if you want the link and I'll PM it to you. Of course, for anything more complex, Google "Photoshop Tutorials" and you'll get all kinds of interesting help.

Totaling over 14,000 GPH flow now!!!

I spent the better part of two evenings programming the flow sequences into the Profilux. It took way longer than it should have as I had one DOA 6055. Only after hours of fiddling with the Profilux did I figure out I had a bad one.

Lesson learned:

If you just plug in a Tunze without any control cables attached it SHOULD run full throttle. If it doesn't, you got a dead pump.

Even than, programing tunzes on a profilux is harder than it should be. The axep is much easier then the profilux.

Seems to be that way for a lot of features on the Profilux but at the end of the day its arguably the best controller on the market. It is unsurpassed when it comes to how robust, flexible, and scalable it is. The interface just falls short as the more robust a controller you create, the more intuitive the interface needs to be. Parts of it are done very well but the higher end features are done poorly in my opinion. The higher end features require a manual to program/operate. I find the manual to be a serious point of frustration. Its like they just plugged the German version into Google Translator and crossed their fingers. That never works.

That said, Michael @ GHL puts a tremendous amount of effort into customer support. He and I exchanged maybe 20 PM's just on the Tunze matter alone. Nonetheless he could avoid much of the technical support headaches in Profilux would just hire a top gun programmer to redo the interface.

Thanks Steve! We have an LFS that is friends with a Hawaiian collector. Every Sat he has a shipment come in and sells right out of the box for wholesale. Potters goes for about $16! Just got a Declivas BF for $100!!

Erik,

How's that Latz doing? ;) Should post some pics of that big momma!

James-

Thanks again for the Aussie frags this weekend! You definitely have some gems! I definitely need to stop by and check out your tank next time I roll down south.

Latz just doing her thing...occasional raid on the Darwins! I will try to take some more pics of her soon!

Wow Erik,

Just spent the day perusing your thread as I'd heard about you from a few reefers and all I can say is WOW!!! :hammer:

Really nice tank, attention to detail and I absolutely LOVE your choice of corals for both colors and variety!

I know how you feel though about visiting Steve's... did the same thing 4th of July weekend this year and WOW... I came home with a 6105 and ended up getting another a couple months ago. Not to mention the wavebox Steve hooked me up with! Lots of flow in my tank now.. :bounce3:

Now I just need to pay you a visit and hit you up for some of those luscious beauties you've got there. SO MANY TO CHOSE FROM!!!

If you ever frag shoot me a PM please!!!

Hi Dave-

Thank you so much for the kind words and props. The tank is maturing nicely and things have been very stable and healthy. Finally all my frags are starting to look like mini colonies. You are definitely welcome to stop by next time you are in town!

You have two 6105's now. How did you position them and how are they sequenced?

Thanks so much for the open invite! Not sure when the family and I will be back out but would very much like to stop by next time we're out there. My wife's got family in different parts of CA so we get out there at least once a year.

As for the 6105's, I have them on opposite sides of the tank and opposite of one another. That's to say they're not directly across from one another. I have them set up in this order: 6105 & 6055 on left side & 6105 & 6055 on the right side. The pumps on the left side are pointed toward the back pane of glass and the pumps on the right are pointed toward the front pain.

Pumps are set to pulse on a 7095 controller going from 30% to 100% randomly. The wavebox is on it's own controller and modified similarly to the 6105's as it too is equipped with the next size larger intake screen for wider flow as well.

All in all I'm very happy with the results!

Hope this helps. :)

THis sounds like a similar setup as mine with regards to the 6105's facing each other and the sequence/flow setting. I had mine dialed down to max 80% for a while but just opened them up full throttle last night. Here is the result!

Recently did an upgrade on my GFO reactor. Purchased the Bulk Reef Supply reactor and have to say it leaves the competition in the dust!! Some really cool features are:

1) All media contained in a modified DI resin cartridge. Can replace GFO by simply swapping out the cartridges or dumping out the existing one and refilling.

2) Quick disconnect on all the fittings. Makes it much easier to pull out of the sump

3) Purge button at the top allows it to drain really easily

Overall I am super pleased and know I will be doing a better job of replacing the media since it not a total PITA anymore!

Here are some shots!

Made a custom bracket out of acrylic to hang the unit on the sump wall.

Almost lost the colony last week! total STN overnight. Think I dodged the bullet on this one though with 5 frags making it.

BTW since I know you are such a big fan of naming corals I decided to name this one Lakini Lokani . While driving for 10 hours to SD, I saw a song come across Sirius with the name Lakini. And there you have it...

Oh before I forget, thanks again for having me over to see your INSANE tank! The workmanship, attention to detail, and effort you put into this masterpiece is awe inspiring! Reading your thread I have always been amazed but to see it in person is something else.

Beautiful tank! Just as an aside, I believe the song was likely Lakini's Juice, by Live :) ok back to browsing the rest of your thread.....

Yep thats the song! So Lakini Lokani is named after Live's Lakini's Juice.

On that topic, the colony is no longer but my two frags are doing okay though one had a recent STN event. Need to check in with the two other people I gave frags to and see if those ones are still alive.

Hoping that over time this coral might become a little bit more hardy. Seems it is super sensative to alk fluctuations. Maybe this is justification for balling??

Can we see the modified DI cartridge? It just occurred to me that the thick floss at the top (where the water passes out) is probably excellent at stopping the fines from coming out. I like that it is all black too.

I used to have one just like that under the sink in my kitchen to polish the cold water supply. Again, something repurposed for our reefs.
