Aggresive kole tang?

So I introduced a flame angel into my 90 gallon DT that was already home to a kole tang and a pair of clowns and immediately the tang started chasing and harassing the new angel. It got so bad that the tang was getting marks all over his body from scraping against the rocks during his high speed pursuit of the poor angel. I ended up removing the tang and putting him in my 24 gallon quarantine tank for now, problem is catching him required me to take most of my rock out and draining the water into a pair of brutes and then refilling the tank. And of course the stupid rocks never go back together the exact same way as they were.:uzi:

Anyways my question is should I reintroduce the tang after he's in timeout for a week or so or just take him to the LFS and trade him in? I'm planning on adding more fish eventually but nothing right now. I definitely don't want to go through the pain of catching him every time I put something new in even if ho does decide to play nice with the flame angel.

I guess that depends on how attached you are to the fish. If you're not all that attached to the kole tang, you could return them as they are not that difficult to come by. Stocking order is very important when it comes to adding fish. You may want to post a list of the fish that you want to keep and one of us can help advise you what order to stock the rest of your fish in to help minimize the chance of aggression. However, all fish have personalities and not everyone is the same so nothing is a guarantee. Good luck

GO BROWNS!

+1 on the GO BROWNS!

Give them a bit to work it out. I had the same issue with a coral beauty and a kole and they were fine within two days. But the first day was a real bruiser haha. Clipped fins here and there. Try outing the lights when they get too aggressive.

When I add a new fish, I put it into an acclimation box for 2-3 days, then when I release him its late at night and I keep the tank lights off for 2 days.
Hope it works out for you

Thanks for the help guys. Ended up taking the tang to the LFS and trading him in towards a beautiful piece of brain coral, the flame angel is happy and swimming all over the tank now.

Just wait until the Flame is comfortable and starts to pick at the new brain. Not trying to rain on your parade but my luck with flames and LPS has not been good. Hope you have better.

I also found out the hard way that any grazing fish added after a kole will not be a fun thing to watch.. same thing happened as yours getting marked all up my the rocks going nuts chasing a blenny around.. I too traded the kole back.

Mine chases new guys, sometimes relentlessly, then stops. It's unnerving, but I've never seen it actually inflict injury. He definitely thinks he's king of the tank. Once he stops, my majestic angel will start in for an hour or so, but only half-heartedly. Then the smaller angels will go through the motions. You can definitely see the pecking order.

After a few days it's all over. The one exception was between my kole and a starry blenny. The kole never quite got over it.

My kole doesn't like by diamond goby. He will chase it back in it's cave. The diamond goby just watches from the entrance and then comes back. It doesn;t seem to bother the diamond that much.

IME koles can be nasty, mine would not leave my dwarf angles alone. I found him a new home.
