Aggressive Cleaning Crew

All,

What do you use for a cleaning crew when you have an aggressive tank?

I will only have a Blue Throated trigger in my tank, and I don't know if that qualifies as an agressive fish (it's pretty tame) but I need to add some cleaners to help out my tank.

Thanks

Mexican Turbo Snails for me.

Most blue throats are not really threats to snails and hermits. Most people consider them reef safe. Youd should be able to have a normal cleaing crew with your blue throat.

What about Fighting Conch's

What about Fighting Conch's

Anybody have any experience with fighting conch snails? Based on what I've read it seems they'd be a good choice for a big tank, but I never see anything about them so I'm trying to figure out why.

My experiment with Nassarius snails hasn't turned out as well as I had hoped...

I've had a couple big blue legged hermits in with a harlequin tusk, a lunare wrasse and a a trigger (first a humu now a clown) for over a year. No one bothers him as he chooses his time to come out carefully I think.

I also use turbo snails. They have learned to only come out at night so they dont get picked at.

I think its a well proven fact that your best bet is going to be Mexican Turbo Snails as a clean up crew. Don't worry if they get picked at once adding them into your aqurium they will learn quickly when to move and when to hold onto their shells.

i love fishting conchs, they get about four inches and look like little aliens, they develop personalities toward their owners etc, but they doo seem tast to triggers and puffers.

Wow fighting conchs sound like fun. Where is a place I can order some for a good price? I'm just worried that my newest addition which is still in his egg (Banded Bamboo Cat Shark) will decide that their lunch if I forget to feed him on day.

Jasonanatal,

i hope your not planning on putting that shark in the 55. The shark needs a much larger tank.

yes even as a baby they need lots of swimming room.
i have always bought my conchs at my pet store. i would only get them once the lfs has had a batch in for at least a week. they tend to not have fun in shippind an dabout 30% die off in the first week

Johno4, yes I know he needs much more room which is why I'm moving in 3 months and purchasing a minimum of 125 gallons but most likely purchasing a 210. Does anyone know where I can get good prices on these tank size?

Jasonanatal,

just remember the shark is going to get about 3 feet long, in the tanks your planning on putting him in he wont be able to turn around easily. The width of the tank you buy should be at least as wide as the fish is long. 125 is not even close to being a large enough tank for the duration of the sharks life. Im not trying to be mean, but if you think about it, it would be like living in a closet your whole life. Would you like it?
