Aggressive Clown - now a murderer!

I had a couple false percs (tank raised) that ive had in my nano12 for about 6 months now or so - the larger one has been becoming more and more aggressive towards the littler one. Apparently it got really bad as I found the little guy swimming upside down and just all messed up - I separated him but it was just too late as he bit the bullet a few hours later.
Now my question is if I can try another clown should I get one thats smaller than the one I have or what are my best options?

You definitely want a smaller one since the larger is without a doubt a female who will at least attempt to kill any larger clownfish you add.

Do you have any place a smaller clown can hide in your tank?

I know clownfish can become aggressive to other fish when they are spawning, but I'm honestly surprised one would kill its own mate after so long together. Usually it's a struggle for dominance, the smaller one submits, and they go about their day. The female will push around the male here and there, but males normally show enough submission to avoid actual damage.

yeah - he had his spots to hide...and the "lady" would leave him alone, but it got to where anytime he would come out in the open he would get chased and pecked at!
