Any experienced aquarists have recemmendations on which are usually BAD combinations?

Well just consider the usual suspects, triggers, angels, lionfish, puffers, eels, wrasses etc.

Thanks again.

You can never be 100% certain until you try it out. Honestly. I have seen things that should never work and do.

seriously, if you do have a territorial fish and are trying to add a tankmate, sometimes you can break the territoriality by yanking the #1 fish into qt, and rearranging the rock. In the case of aggressives, you may need two qt tanks to do this.

Thanks guys. Sounds like sound advice to me. :) I have been reading for months ( originally was gonna go reef) so i have a lot book knowledge but no experience!

Here is a tenative line up:

1 Purple tang or 1 sohal tang
Miniatus grouper
Procupine puffer
Trigger would like a clown (i know risky) but may be willing to settle for Humuhumu.

i figure if i want them to have room as adults that should probably be it.

i am going to add some sea cucumbers, horshoe crabs, and a bunch of hermits for algae and detritus control and fish snacks!

I have a lifereef vs24 skimmer (mag 9.5), a refugium (16 gal. prolly only 5 or so water in it after adding mud). It is plumbed to the lifereef sump (ls-300, the largest one they have). Gonna due culerpa in the refugium with 24 hour lighting. and 700gph flowthru rate.

Any thoughts on all this including the fish selection?
