aggressive six line wrasse

The only fish in my 24 gallon reef aquapod is a six line wrasse, but s/he got really aggressive when I added a percula clown (and sadly chased the percula until it jumped out).

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good fish to add that can hold its own and would be appropriate for my size reef tank?

That’s a tough call. Six Lines are usually hit or miss as far as them being mean.

If you really want to keep the six line you might try putting him in a quarantine tank for awhile. Then try stocking your main tank so the new fish can establish there territories, and add the six line at a later date.

I had one that was a bully and ended up getting rid of him. I personally would suggest that you do the same and start over with your fish selection. Just not worth loosing anything else in my opinion.

i have never had a problem with my 6line...i added him after some of my other fish and the only thing added to the tank since he was put in was a mated pair of gold strip maroons and a coral beauty. never had a problem with any of them. try adding the other fish while you have the 6line in another small tank then put the 6line back after the new fish have had about a week to settle in.

Clearly this guy is having a load of trouble with his. It's not worth leaving the fish in there. A 24g is too small for an agro fish.

You're lucky.
They can be a huge pain. I agree with Matt. I'd get rid of it. IME, taking the fish out and putting it back after the new fish is established will delay the problem, but eventually you'll be back to having problems with aggressiveness. Then, depending on how the tank is set up, you could end up tearing everything apart a second time to remove the fish you had already removed once.

Put my six line wrasse in my refugium. He be killing fish for a long time. Removed him. Now i have new fish in my tank.

Introduce new fish in the night when the lights are out so that when the 6-line is up next day i will think the fish was there from the begining. This worked for me when put in my 2 percs.

This won't work with a known aggressive fish. It will become active in the morning, see the new fish on it's patch and attack.

I always here people complaining about sixlines, I have two in my home and they are both great fish, Ive added four new fish into my 80 and my sixline goes crazy for about 2 min. and thats it. And I have 9 fish in my tank so ther isnt realy a lot of room for them to make territory.

You should have used that luck on a lottery ticket. :D

Same story again and again. Sixlines seem to start out as peaceful and friendly....slowly over time they become one mean S.O.B. and become the ruler of their world. Its just their nature. Unless they are the smallest (by far) fish in the tank...its just a given) They are such cool fish, too bad they end up that way.

Well ive had mine for maybe 4 to 5 months now and still acting the same as when I got him, peaceful and only attacking for defence against my angel

i have had my 6line for well over a year and he is the same now as he was when i put him in the tank. so hell i guess im lucky....but then again i cant seem to win the lottery either...hmmm...
