Ahhh Sea Monsters!!!!

So in my tanks life so far I have come into a major pods boom both amphi and copepods, bristle worms and all those other little critters, even a couple micro stars and at least 2 asterinas.

I had my diatom outbreak and my GHA followed by some cyano. I can deal. Its all about patience right?

Well I also came on some bad things. Like I had a red foot snail. Easy cure by the sun in a bag (i didnt want to he was pretty) But cant have a carnivourous snail. (everything says it will eat anything)

I have a small aptasia problem. Isnt that a pain lol. But I am working on that.

But I found me a true beast tonight. A couple of them actually. I am finding some of those brown flatworms I have in my 2g are somehow in my 29. They dont bother my corals or CUC in the pico but I dont want them in my 29g.

The true beast though is a hideous creation. You can find these evil critters amongst your home or outside. They scare so many people on dry land they have an entire phobia named after them. (im not scared of them but dont like them) But the point is I have SEA SPIDERS!!!

They arent big yet. But there are several. I syphoned out the ones I could but I cant get them all. I would get a picture but they are so tiny you wouldnt see them. But picture this.

About the size of a pencil eraser. The body is about the size of a pencil lead. 8 Legs, when bothered they curl up in a ball just like any normal spider would.

What can I do to get rid of these guys? Its physically impossible to just syphon them all out. Would FWE get rid of these guys? A Wrasse maybe?

HELP!!!!!!

If you havent had the 29 goin long i'd restart. Patience is the key and it sounds like you went straight for the live rock and aquired half the worlds aquarium pest list.

if u start over dry out the rocks in the sun for a week. wash the sand even let that dry out in the sun maybe in some buckets. Throw the sand and the rockscape back in after about a week but no less than a week. throw in 2 cocktail shrimp and wait for about a month or until your cycle is threw. throw your cuc in and after about a week or 2 of that add fish and coral. remember to add the fish slowly. dont put schools in at once. dont want to overload the bioload.

they are clear in color but have solid white spots where there "knees" are. they move like a spider not like a star.

just a suggestion. If i had a mixed infestation like that and was in a good position to move my live stock with ease i wouldnt mind restarting. absolutely no hitchhikers or pests.

I am down to 2 aptasia and will have my pep shrimp in like 10 days. I will be doing a FWE treatment this week. I just don't know what to do for spiders lol can't use mothballs lol

I feel for you. I hope beyound hope that I never have to deal with or see them.

I am so afraid of spiders I can not kill them. They put me into tears. I find them in the house while I am alone I leave. I have stopped in the middle of our country road and got out of the car due to a spider on the rear view mirror. I had to just stand there waiting till someone came and stopped to kill it.

Thanks for giving me a new thing to have nightmares about..looked up some pictures of those things..:eek2:

AFAIK, there are no predators that will kill/eat them. Manual removal is about the only thing you can do. Post up a pic so we can give you a confirmation on the ID.

I will try to get a pic when I get home from work. they are still small and my camera sucks for closeups so I don't know if I will get one

I hate spiders. Bleh!

Not that it might work. But myabe a 6-line will eat it?

That's the worst I've heard in a tank so far. So many pest.

Heres some pics. they are sucky and low quality so I tried tweaking a couple of them co you can see this guy a little better. And it is definitely a spider i can see a body in the center that is elongated. And it definitely walks with its legs not move like a star.

I found this one online it looks very similiar...

I am reading that most species prey on zoas but there are many that prey on aptasia and hydroids.... hmm might be the food source here since there are not softies in the tank...

That is freaky.

Given the 5th and 6th picture it looks like it only has 6 legs which would classify it as an insect and not an arachnid.

But who the heck knows or cares? We've removed far more benign looking critters for less.
