ahhhhh Some People!!!!

Yea i saw an artical in the paper about a week ago on a hydrogen engin that is running as we speek and is just l a couple 100 hours away from passing certification. I would by a hydrogen car in a sec lol its only real by product is us pure h2o.

I think we need to turn our efforts twards nuclear fission. Unlimited energy that will never run out but who knows if it will be in our life times.

Man i love this stuff i guess thats why im becoming an engineer lol

if you buy a hydrogen only car good luck fueling it as ther is no place to fill up at currently in the state.

I think that has been the problem with all the alternative (sp) fuel vehicles in the past. Who is going to buy something they can't get fuel for. The next problem is what store wants to sell something that has no demand. To much overhead to stock something that isn't selling several times daily.

As long as we are on the subject and off reefs (although sort of related - environment).

There will be no serious effort for alternative fuels as long as the price/demand stays the same.

If the US Government would put a $1.50 a gallon tax on gas. We would purchase more fuel efficient autos, people would drive less because they could not afford it, public transportation would increase, alternative fuel research would increase because the cost would be more attractive, OEMs would improve MPG ratings on larger vehicles as well as smaller - demand would decrease - OPEC would be out of luck - problem solved 3-4 years max.

As long as we are willing to pay/buy, nothing will change.

This does not happen because the Gov. is in bed with the oil companies and because higher taxes would not be popular so the politicians are not going to give away their 3-4 years in office for the good of everyone 5-10 years down the line. Global warming is no different, similar tax would have similar improvements to that issue as well but the guy who does it is also committing to a 1 term Presidency.

True but only for now, remember one day that what we call alternative sources of power today, will just be common and what we use. That's the paradigm shift I speak of.

but it can't begin until there is fuel to power them. not many people can afford to buy the car and let it sit til fuel is available.

Here is somthing i found..

How much water would the U.S. use to fuel the entire light-duty vehicle fleet (cars and small trucks) with hydrogen?

Conversion of the current U.S. light-duty fleet (some 230 million vehicles) to fuel cell vehicles would require about 100 billion gallons of water/year to supply the needed hydrogen (1).

For comparison, the U.S. uses about 300 billion gallons of water/year for the production of gasoline (2), about three times the amount needed for hydrogen, and about 70 TRILLION gallons of water/year for thermoelectric power generation (3). Domestic personal water use in the United States is about 4800 billion gallons/year.

Right there says that we use more water each years to JUST RIFINE OIL then would be requied to run EVERY CAR IN THE US FOR YEAR... Thats one of the best bits of news i have heard in a wile lol

Some protoypes of hydogen cars you would not need a fueling station the station would be your HOUSE WATER HOSE lol they would just use electrolyzer to seperate the 2 parts hydrogen from the oxygen.

Well, I am happy to report that GM is running a fleet of hydrogen vehicles (and yes there is even a Hydrogen H2 they are running) and the Ethnahol thing should be taking off, Saab just unveiled a concept with a 400hp V8 that runs 100% ethnahol... Hydrogen is probably going to be several years off (probably 8-10 years) Ethnahol is probably closer. My only problem with ethnahol is that farmers will want to grow it a lot more and it will probably skyrocket the price of other produce and maybe even farm raised livestock....

Consequently, the Smart Car from europe is able to be run on Lithium Ion batteries pretty well and the same company has a Chrysler Crossfire that can do 160mph with the same batteries...and I thought battery cars were going to be slugs...
(of course, how long can the crossfire run after doing 160? Good question..)

Whoops... what I meant to say here "is that farmers will want to grow it a lot more" was ethnahol grade corn, as opposed produce grade corn...
