AI and Profilux not getting it

I ordered a Aqua Illuminations LED with the profilux cord. If the cord plugs into the RS232 spot, I can't connect to my computer to program the lights at the same time. What gives?

if I would have known this was a added cost I would have given this a second thought. Now I have to spend more money on a usb port for my controller. This should have been explained to me on how this light connected to the controller. This sucks, I wanted to play with this tonight.......

wow I went to order the usb part. $25 dollars to ship, for a total of $100..... man can I get this somewhere else? I'm sorry to complain, but I spend $550 on a light just to spend another $100 to program it on my PC is crazy......

I agree 100%, for being a higher end aquarium conroller, a USB input should definitely be standard. Especially if GHL is marketing the ability of the Profilux to connect directly to your personal computer. At the bare minimun, a USB to Serial cable should come standard with the purchase of any Profilux controller. Additionally, if you're a Mac user such as myself, be prepare to spend an extra $50 to purchase Parallels, a software program that enables Mac users to actually run the Profilux software. In my honest opinion, GHL falls short in delivery a 100% user frinedly/plug and play aquarium controller to the consumer.

I feel your pain Ryno, I purchased my Profilux II roughly a month ago! Disappointingly I have yet been able to use it at it's maximum potential without pumping an additional $150 into the system. For spending $500 plus on the Profilux II, which is equivalent to the Mercedes Benz of all aquarium controllers, I definitely wasn't expecting for it to be this troublesome. Heck, I will even venture to say that from a user friendly/plug and play standpoint, my DA Reefkeeper outperformed the Profilux. At the $100 price point, the Reefkeeper delivered on all levels! Please allow me to reiterate that my opinion stated above and the comparison with the Reefkeeper was from a user frienddly/plug and play standpoint. Clearly the Profilux is much more advanced regarding its capabilites, build quality, and customer service!

As I mentioned above, Profilux's customer service is sensational! Ryno, I too am in the exact same shoes as you and in need of a USB card for my Profilux. I contacted Gareth from Progressive Reef and he is allowing me to purchase the USB card through his website and will kindly deliver it to me when I seen him at MACNA next week. If you like, I'll be happy to purchase an extra USB card for you. Just send me the money through Paypal, I'm sure it shouldn't cost more than $5 to deliver it within the US.

Hi

If you select standard shipping instead of UPS it will only cost you about $9.00

Please select standard from te drop down menu

As customer care is paramount to us I have to address this directly.

If you have an issue with a point of sale, please contact the point of sale, using a forum to vent does not help us address your problem. Having said that, you say "if this was explained to me" who did you talk to on the phone or email and ask? I can then address this directly with them.

In regards to the Profilux plus II, it is the entry level controller to THE most advance controller system on the market, and as such yes it does not have "ALL" the bells and whistles added, but it does not cost hundreds of dollars to add a second RS232 port but instead $34 from there you can connect both to the PC and also your Ai lights. If you wish to go down the USB route then this is $76.00

In regards to less functionality to other makes that cost less than $100, I am sorry this simply is way off the mark and not true, the ProfiLux has massive capabilities way beyond most, I could list them here but you would be reading for a long time ;) Other brands too are in no way plug and play either.

There simply is not such a plug and play device on the market, everything at some point needs human intervention, the whole fun of this hobby is learning new things and having fun, if you get stuck, drop me an email, post on the GHL support forum, or call Gareth and help will be there 7 days a week. Posts like this do nothing for us to help a clients frustratons effectively.

I urge everyone, if you have a concern email us, as threads like this do nothing for us to help and reasure a user in the correct and timely manner.

Hear to help as always ;)

Sorry if my post came off harsh. I was so looking forward to playing with this light when I got it in. I was by no means knock my love for this controller. I ordered the USB anyway because I had to order some other parts too. I was just in a bad mood. Hope the shipping from Canada doesn't take long to get to the bayou country.

Sorry to answer your question I bought it from reefgeek and the was no description on the cable as to what type of plug it used nor a picture to what it looked like. I though it might have plugged in to the same port as my LED stick.
