ailing target mandarin

hey all-
my brother picked up this lil guy (yes i realize my tank is not as mature or large as it ideally should be for this species).
none the less- i did watch him accept frozen mysis at the lfs so hopefully he wont starve if i get him trained or get my pod population up to a good level. he is eating and his colors have defiantly improved.

my concern is the tear in his side and the split in his tail.
i did my best to get a photo of him that could help id potential issues.

Any constructive thoughts are welcome!

Thanks

Torn or split fin should heal up fairly quickly, probably a week or two. Not sure about the tear in his side, but as long as he's eating, that should eventually disappear as well.

thanks for your input mike- his colors are continuing to improve, and it looks like the tear in his side may be healing. The tail split looks like it still is worsening- I hope this guy makes it.

you were right on the money Mike-
his tail is healed - took about 2 days to repair- and it continues to look like it is strengthening.

the tear in his side has also healed- probably about 85%

Im glad i just waited it out- and didnt chase him around- net and attempt to quarantine him, which probably would have just worsened things.

goes to show- that sometimes these things will take care of themselves. I just worked on keeping my parameters (really only temp and salinity) as stable as poss. and i lowered my bioload by just feeding my clowns less untill my mandy started healing up.

If anyone has experience with training mandarins on frozen foods- please offer some advice or direct my search.

I will upload a new pic of my mandarin within the next few days.

here we go-
So he seems to have made a full recovery.
These fish are cool- im glad to see that my pod populations are doing well so he shouldnt go hungry any time soon!
