AIO Questions

I'm new to AIO's and I'm setting up an AIO as a frag tank. Doesn't really leave room for liverock because of the eggcrate "steps" I want to add. How do I go about biological filtration without unstable parameters? Also after the overflow should I put in a bag of Chemi-Pure with filter floss on top at the bottom of the first chamber?

Put some rock under the egg crate steps and keep up on the water changes.
