Aiptasia control in a sps system

No it doesn't. Not the one I used anyway. Worst made piece of junk I ever used. A friend of mine bought 1, sent it back and got another and neither lasted more than about 10 minutes. When it did work the aiptasia would shrink back into a hole before you could zap them good. It did work on some mushrooms but I only wiped out about 3 before the unit crapped out.

I totally agree. I have the majono wand I got fro tb aquatics have not killed a single aiptasia yet. They shrink faster than the zapper can get to them. Great for my majano's though.

If you decide to use technology instead of a natural resource, have a look at this majano wand/aiptasia zapper

Renato.

Sorry that is wrong advice. Don't get this for aiptasia.

I made my own zapper and it worked great. You just gotta hold it on the aiptasia for a little bit you can't just zap pr for a se index and be done. You gotta like molest Ot with the zapper stab it a couple times and if it goes into a hole you gotta be even more thorough with it.

Where did u get yours

I didn't. I used my friends. He got it from tbaquatics. He bought one and it stopped working after a few minutes and sent it back. The replacement they sent him didn't last any longer. He let me borrow the replacement straight out of the box and it only lasted a few minutes.

I got mine at the coral farmers market in Orlando haven't had a problem, seems strange that it would die right out of the box

i got my aiptaser from Tropical reef Corals in Florida, was cheaper too.

mine is a good quality build and I've had no issues what-so-ever

using it is like using aiptasia X or joes juice. you gotta get close to them slowly so they don't retract. if you get it to wrap its tentacles around the probe or syringe, then you're good...

some of the one's that are in hard to get places may take a couple trys but nothing is 100% effective for 100% of the people...

ive tried berghias, joes jiuce/aiptasia x and now the aiptaser. i like the aiptaser as you dont have to keep buying refills.

i may get a couple peppermints just to give me a better shot at staying ahead of the anemones... they're only $7 each :P

this is also true. Rick at TRC, where I got mine, said specifically you have to kill off all the flesh thats left. if it goes into a hole, you can insert the probe into the hole and keep zapping...

the Acreichthys tomentosus sounds interesting, any idea on clams? gonna try and read some more on him, sounds like a interesting fish aswell.

I have 4 clams, large and small. So far, it's eaten Majano off of one of their shells, but hasn't bothered them at all.

A filefish wiped out 3 acan colonies and 2 complete zoa colonies in a night..... Never putting one of them in my tanks again!

It's critical to make sure you have the correct species. The Acreichthys tomentosus is easily confused with other types, such as the Tassled Filefish (Chaetodermis pencilligerus) Using common names is also a mistake, as several Filefish share common names. Most filefish are not at all reef safe.

i am close to try the fish, i just want to be sure its more or less safe (ofcource there is no souch thing as 100% safe)

Try kalk 2 and mix to a paste, use a surnge to apply to the aptasia
it burns them
pep shrimp will not eat them if they get to big
also watch your cal and mag with kalk 2

this works great, and it will have no ill effect on cal/alk. 1TSP of Kalk, 2 TBSP tap water, nuke for 40 seconds, and paste the heck out of them with a syringe. Your water will have stuff floating in it, but I have NEVER had a problem. Just turn your pumps off for a little and let it settle.

I would watch your peppermint shrimp very closely as I had two that plucked an entire SPS clean polyp by polyp.

Some have never had any trouble with these, some have, I even made a thread about it here. And, YES they were the true peppermint shrimp, not camel shrimp or whatnot.

Just be watchful.

yup just got mine, first try I spent about 15 minutes and about half are dead-got to use the probe to rip the flesh off. Quality build

i've had a couple grow back. no biggie tho because the good thing so far is, no babies. i just hit them every couple nights. hopefully, with a little patience and persistence I'll be anemone free soon!

Peppermint shrimp are harmless they are however harmful towards aiptasia :)

Not always....Do some research and you will find mixed reviews. I posted a thread where I personally saw my shrimp pluck healthy polyp after polyp off a coral.

Let's see, peppermint shrimp are good at eating aptasia ideally, which are.......a type of polyp.

Many have had no problems, but there are many that have had problems too.

The ones we currently stock are not the same as the original ones, of which many failed quickly. Our new ones are us made.

I can pick rocks out a my *** tank dip them in and the copperbanded will eat them out of my hand. Just got lucky I guess he has never picked on any of my sps.
