aiptasia control; recommendations

hi guys,
so the aiptasia is kinda sorta getting out of hand now. i have been using an aiptasia control white thick stuff, but still havent been able to control them.
i want an aiptasia predator :) so please recommend what worked for you? i have heard about peppermint shrimp and bergia nudibranch (sp?)
which one should i get and from where?

BERGHIA NUDI's, or Peppermint shrimp ( wanner wuramandi ? ) as natural Predators or a very labor intesive way is kalk pasting or injecting them with joe's juice...
 
so long as you don't overfeed your tank, the peppermint shrimp eat that stuff pretty well. cheaper option, i think.

$100 including shipping for 4 berghias and 2 months later my problems are solved with not a single aptasia in the tank. For a $100 why are people still even asking about aptasia control problems? Bite the bullet buy the berghias and be done with it. No ich problem, no peppermint eating zoo's or whether the peppermint will or will not touch your aptasias. $100 is about the cost of a few frags for some of you.

Nope.. but you can resell them.. They are not that hard to sell.

I have some aptasia too but as long as I don't touch them, they don't spread. They get bigger but not multiply. I think it's easier to remove them when they are big.

where did you get those berghias from?

so it seems that there are two kind of peppermint shrimps or two kinds of shrimps that are sold as peppermint shrimps. one eats aiptasia and the other doesnt. where do i find the correct version of the shrimp :)

but for the other 99% of people the story ends with all the aiptasias alive and no sign of Nudies after first day.

There is only one kind of peppermint shrimp but all depends on your luck to see if it going to eat aiptasia or not. Most peppermints do eat aiptasia when you stop feeding them food. The other shrimp that are similar to pepermint are Camel Shrimp does nothing with aiptasia at all.

I got 3 pep shrimps at this place (link below) and it constantly looking for aiptasia to eat. They clean up aiptasia in my tank in the first week and no aiptasia since...

I do plan to try berghias again, but I have set up a 29g qt tank which I'm going to fill with aiptasia. I'll then put the berghia into the qt and hope they breed a bit, then transfer some of the offspring to my main tank. My tank has more aiptasia than water. I've tried peps many times (they work, but I can't seem to keep them alive).

If you have a smaller tank, I say got with the peps. They do an excellent job when you first get them (since they usually have starved during shipping and sitting in the LFS for days). I had probably about 100 in my 29g (I know I got lazy..) and they wiped all of them out except the ones they couldn't reach on one of the powerheads (which I plan on lowering and shutting it off to let them eat away).

In my dad's 90, we have had a copperband for about 3 years now and it wiped out the aiptasia very slowly, but now there isn't any left at all. No problems with it eating corals and it loves mysis, etc. It is our second one tho and the first died in a week, so they can be a real crapshoot sometimes, but an awesome fish if you get a healthy, eating one.
 
ok, i added three peppermint shirmps to my tank about 10 minutes ago. now i am keeping my fingers crossed. they are hiding behind the rocks right now.
 
Vince, you can have my nudis ifI can ever find them. And believe me I tried! The only reason I know they were alive is because my aptasia keeps disappearing. Right now all aptasia is gone so they should be coming out of the woodworks. If I see them I'll catch them and you just need to come over and get them.

It actually takes quite a while for the Berghias to get going on the aptasia. Most people don't notice anything for at least the first month. The usually think the Nudis are dead. Unfortunately a lot of the times people end up trying something else in that amount of time like getting rid of the rock or putting something else in the tank to eat the aptasia. They don't get a chance to see how well they work.
