aiptasia eating nudi's locally?

hi all,

anyone know of somewhere locally where I can buy some aiptasia eating nudibranchs?

I was thinking of getting some to tackle my rock anemone's because despite trying to cut feedings and do more regular water changes, once they are there it is almost impossible to get rid of them. I've tried kalk paste but it is a pain and doesn't seem to work very well, plus most of mine are far too small to get to effectively.

The nudibranchs aren't too bad of a price online, but given this cold weather I figured I would see if any stores or local folks have any for sale first.

Thanks.

Just get like 5 peppermint shrimp and they should wipe them out pretty quick. They are cheap and Salty Critter has them...

If you don't have any tangs or angels a copperband butterfly is your most economical bet. You will have to feed it mysis or plankton at first untill it learns to eat aiptasia

Might have to try this myself. I have the friggin things everywhere!!!!!

i have 6 pepperment shrimp they work great plus they spawn and feed the tank with the fry

they dont do anything for mojano/tulip anemones though

anybody know anything that eats or kills mojano besides kalk and joes juice???

We had great luck with a Raccoon Butterfly. Hector ordered one for us.... (Tropical Aquarium in Brunswick) completely eradicated them in I think 3 days....however, after they are gone they may nip at zoas.

aptasia or mojanos ?

I have two peppermints and they dont touch my aptasias

I didnt want a butterfly that might eat some corals so I bought some of the aptasia killer stuff and go at them with a syringe. I've tried spiking them with lemon juice also (something i read once)

These seem to work but it takes a few good strikes, sometimes its hard to hit them good but the kids find amusment in the hunt!

Get a couple more peppermint shrimp to go at them... They are a little hit or miss if you get just one or two. Get like 5 or 6 of them and you are pretty much guaranteed they will take them out.

They will scour your tank looking for them. Best thing I have found... Joe's Juice just shriveled them up for awhile and they would grow back.

I actually think that Joes is a fertilizer for aptasia. It definitely does not kill it.

Ok I'll try a couple more peppermints I just hope they dont end up as food for the coral banded shrimp I have.
Do the peppermints actually eat the bigger aiptasias?

The brand i use is tropic marin elimi-aiptas, and yes they do seem to come back some times, its hard to tell if you hit them well enough.

You have to be sure the pepermints you buy are the type that eat aiptasia. there are two species of pepermint shrimp, both look alike, But only one eats aiptasia. From what I have read it depends what part of the world they come from. Also the if the shrimp are well fed with fish food, they wont eat aiptasia only as a last resort. Copperbands are considered reef safe. I have one in my tank it dont bother the corals.

Copperbands are reef safe, but racoons are not? That seems odd. It was stated earlier that they do not get along with Tangs. That may eliminate them from many peoples wish list as well.

copoperband butterflly fish are reef safe unless you are a tube worm or feather duster. Racoons will eat most any coral and are not remotely ref safe

The Copperband worked awesome for me ! The Pepermint shrimp did not keep up for me and I would get them 6 at a time. The Copperband did'nt pick at any coral, just make sure the one you get has been eating mysis so he will have something to eat in a week when all your atpasia is gone!

I had all 3 pests in my tank, i added a CopperBand and he wiped them ALL out in a week or two. After getting rid of the Aptasias and tulips it took a week or more for him to figure out that Mysis was good and now steals it from my tang! Its a really cool fish, especially when he is hunting the rocks upside down!
