I used a small mini-mag light and went on the hunt..I think I found another one but it is so tiny I can't really tell. I have another Anemone on the back of a piece of liverock that I also have to investigate further..it isn't the same type as the obvious one. It has brown tentacles with yellow tips and reminds me of Medusa there are so many "arms."
if you use the kalk, make sure to turn off your pumps so it doesn't blow away in the current. If you don't have kalk, use Mrs. Wages Pickling Lime, it's the same thing. Happy hunting.
OK...I got a pair of Peppermint shrimp so hopefully they will be ones that like to work and will take out the little Aiptasias. THe attached pic is of the other anemone I found and the more I look at up close from changing the size of the pic I think this one is also an Aiptasia so please bear with me as I ask the same quastion just to be sure Is this an Aiptasia?
The reason this one looks a little different to me is that there is no "stalk"...it is sitting directly on the rock.
I intentionally put one in a tank in my classroom to have for biology lab, 4 months later I have fifty and the population has doubled in the last month.
Local store was out of it and won't have it in until the latter part of next week. I have the Kalk and three more of the little beasties have reared their ugly tentacles, plus, Aiptasia 1 is on the move.....time to go hunting.
I started with one aiptasia , and it turned into about 10 thru out my tank . So it will spread fast if you dont get rid of it . I am now aiptasia free now .
