i got this little amemone growing out of my live rock its small and has brown tenticles. is it aiptasia? is there anything else it can be?

If it is, I have been having good luck with Bob Fenner's suggestion of injecting them with lemon juice. Had to repeat a couple of times occasionally but they're definately going away.

They also sting/kill neighboring corals. Wiped out a fantastic colony of pumpkin zoas & really cool clove polyps. :(

any suggestions for majanos? they are a problem and I tried kalk injection. worked for a little and then they came back.

I used boiling RO water and injected it in the mouth and stem...it melted away....kind of cool. I guess time will tell if it keeps it away.

jeni,
doesn't the lemon juice affect the tank? I want to try it but am a bit afraid. lmk thanks
p.s. anemone still has not moved...are you still looking? thanks again

I ordered 2 peppermint shrimp about a month ago, and I thought they disappeared. All of my aiptasia disappeared as well. Just today I was feeding some frozen food to my tank and I saw one of my peppermint shrimp grabbing some mysis shrimp.

Looks like they did the trick.

tried the peppermint idea, added 3....not one ate a single thing. maybe they felt threatened by my flame hawk and never attempted...after 4 months...never saw them again. Expensive food for the hawk, I guess.
Also tried a butterfly, never had luck either.

My problem is more mojanos (small anemones, whatever they are called) though.

I am also Fighting a massive amount of apstasia im my tank (dont by live rock from deep reef aquatics) I had afew when I got it but now theres a ton of them. stoped by reef plus to day and bought 3 peperment shrimp and a bottle of joes juice. the joes juice works well, the peppermint shrimp dont

Get Joes Juice, wipes mine out stat... its hard to get the ones under the rock, Joes Juice works on gravity. :)

with that real small one I would but a small rock on top of it it will climb on the small rock then take the rock out of the tank. I was never so lucky I had a breakout, bought two peppermint shrimp worked great.

ive tried the lemon juice method too... works like a charm, and doesnt change tank parameters enough to be detected by my test kits.
