Air pump on a super skimmer?

We have a coralife 125 super skimmer that quits making bubbles/foam from time to time, then it'll start back. It does this all day and night. I was wondering if anyone ever hooked up an air pump to air line on the skimmer for a continuous supply of air? Or, if this idea would work?

The problem would be that you will get large bubbles and an inefficient skimmer from adding the air pump to the intake of the needle wheel skimmer. You could mod the heck out of the CSS and add a limewood airstone to the skimmer, but your better bet would be to use the mods that have been proposed on this site. Look for the meshwheel mod for the CSS here on reefcentral.

I had this same problem with my CSS125 until I realized the small hole where the input airline goes into the pump gets clogged, builds up with calcium and other crap. I used a small screw driver to clear the hole completely and haven't had the problem since. Take a look and give it a shot, may fix your problem.
