Air Pump Recommendation

I'm looking to get an air pump to power a food culturing station and a few growout tanks. I'm looking at about 25 outlets all of them with a depth of 12" max. I'm hoping to spend as little as possible for an air pump that does 25-50 outlets. What does everyone recommend? Any manufacturers? Suppliers?

jrodscout: I looked into those, but it seems so expensive and over powered. But, then again I have hardly any experience in large grade pumps. If it isn't a little one that powers an airstone, I'm screwed ;)

Steven: Thanks for the recommendation. I was looking into getting a pump like that, but I wasn't sure if that would work. It should do the trick. The guess at the numbers that I quoted is if the setup was running at full speed; 12 phyto 2-liter bottles (4 of three different strains), 4 small tanks of Rotifers (2 of each strain), 2 for artemia nauplii, and 2 for copepod, ciliate, or other food. The other five would be for growout tanks.

That pump that Steven pointed out, is what I would use. The other pump is way over powered. I have a 5/8 blower that powers ~ 6000 gallons of water.

So, how does that Whitewater pump perform? How long have you had it? Has it broke down before? Did you have to replace any parts? How loud is it?

I'm quite tolerant on how loud the pump is, I'm just trying to figure out what I can compare the noise level to.

Steve is that the pump your using for your greenhouse?
Not currently. I bought it for my acrylic cubicle system that I did my reef-safe treatment experiments in.

I have not had any trouble with it in about a year of use and the noise level is certainly tolerable. Considerably quieter than the army of diaphragm pumps that would be required to take its place.

I figured that's about how loud it would be. Thank you for the recommendation. A little savin' up by sellin' what little Phyto I'm making now, and then I'll have a big pump to push the whole station. So, would you recommend the smallest one, or the second to smallest one. The second to smallest isn't much more expensive.

Thanks Steve, im trying to figure pump size for my 10 600g tanks using airlifts.Any reccomendations would help.

The smallest is the one that I have and I cannot imagine you will need anything stronger.

I am trying to figure that out for my 12 600 gallon tanks. I really need to just hook up the airpump that I have to one of the tubs and see if that looks good and then extrapolate from there. But, I will tell you I am giving Tunze Streams (the non-controllable ones) serious consideration. Their gph/watts ratio is extremely impressive.

I had Anthony C. come to CT & consult me on my GH business. He mentioned using both the airlift & a Tunze. That sounds very interesting though.I going to look into that as well.

I am using the jehmco 5/8 blower in my gh. one thing i noticed is that if you use co2 for anything in the gh you will need to draw air from outside or your water ph will drop .when I first set up the air lifts I was drawing inside air and my ph was around7.9, as soon as i realized that it was related to the air intake i decided totry taking air in from outside........when I did that it fixed the problem overnight, now ph goes no lower than 8.2 even at night.the 5/8 blower runs alot of air lifts as well as my water makeup tanks and i still have to bleed a litte bit of air off. one thing i also noticed was the best way to install it seems to be with a continuous loop air mnifold. I used 2 inch hard pipe with flex on thecurves and threaded couplers to remove pipe sections if i need to tap more valves all in all its one of the best pieces of equipment i have in the gh.great results. I would say get the biggest one you can afford ,you can always add more lifts

Redox,
Glad to hear you got the airlifts going! Were you able to remove any water pumps? Or is the flow-junkie in you now finally satisfied?:)

hey chris you know I probably wont be happy till I rip the tissue off with all that current:D

I thought about that and was recommended by a few to get it, but it's just a little too far out of my price raneg. Thanks for your recommendation Morgman.
