I am starting a new 16g tank. I need some LS and LR.

Any good stores in Arkon area? I know about Salty Critter but I need to know any good more local ones.

Also if anyone has any LS or LR please let me know. Thanks. I work in Cleveland so from Cleveland to Wadsworth down 77 is my daily travel.

Aquatic Technology would be your closest bet. They have plenty of live rock, fish, coral. They are on RT 82 off of I71. In Akron you have Coral Reef, Aquatic Interiors (Sea Cave), Two turtles and Wet pets in Canton. Also, there have been a couple of recent post about a store in Stow called Pet Junction. They are off of RT8 in Stow.

in kent on water street... there is hutch pet store that has some great rock and a plus about 10 varieties of tank raised fish that are super nice...

There are a few in Akron, None like salty critter. aquatic interiors is on exchange street 330-253-3168. I havent been there in awhile, Two turtles on market st. 330-374-6765 and Coral reefs Killian rd. 330-645-0006 very informative but has strange hours call first.

pet junction in stow has rock for $5/lbs. not sure on prices anywhere esle. aqua tech as a nice selection but a bit out of the way, i've only been to salty once so i dont remember their prices. theres something fishy in cleveland thats closing down their saltwater dept, they might have rock

I wouldn't go to Aquatic technology.

Most of the stuff there is overpriced compared to Salty Critter. Plus their service SUCKS. If you want to be treated like garbage, go to Aquatic Technology.

you say there stuff is over priced at aquatic tech, yes i do agree with the drygoods but there fish compared to salty are cheaper. what i dont like about aquatic is the prices on the net are cheaper than the actual prices in the store. what that tells me is screw the hometown guy. when i first went into aquatic he was a real d@!k but he is cool as hell now. the serviceis good there too.

Totally disagree with you about Aquatic tech.

Every time I have been there the service was poor at best.

I even have a buddy that went in there to but a Tek T5 light with cash in hand , but was not waited on for 30 minutes and finally upped and left without a light in hand.

As for the fish, they seem to me to be the most expensive around, outside of Pet's in Lakewood.

I work close to a Petco and have bought some fish there pretty cheap. Not a recommendation to buy at Petco, but I have had success keeping the fish alive. I usually buy a fish from there to save them from living in the toilet water quality water at Petco.

Most of my fish I have bought from liveaquaria.com.

Greg is a good guy. I haven't been in there in a year or so but all you have to do is ask for help. The people in there are busy cleaning tanks and doing all kinds of stuff. The store is huge and there is only 2-3 people in there most of the time. So all you do is ask for some help. They are not pushy to buy anything.

He won't even sell you something that will not live in your tank most of the time...

I liked Greg from Aquatic tech. I do think his prices on coral was crazy on some things but ok on others. When ordering online there is not the overhead that he has. Also most people don't figure in the shipping they paid as part of the cost of the fish when in fact it is.

I also loved Salty Critter. Had a problem once there but that is it. Great prices on alot of stuff. They also will not sell something if they don't think it will work.. Only two I know of worth going to.

I have not seen eye to eye with greg(AT) but he seems to be getting alot better about stuff
And I would say not to scratch him off the list.
every store has its +'s and its -'s IMO

Not exactly sure cleaning a fish tanks constantly is a good reason to have employees that act like pricks towards the clients when you ask them a question.

I'm not saying he is or isn't a good guy at Aqua Tech.

I have been in there a total of about 5 times.

Not once was I asked if I needed help, and not once was I treated like I wasn't bothering the staff there for the help I needed.

The help finding stuff there would be rectified if the store was a little more tidy and didn't look like a bomb hit it. Almost impossible to find anything there in their dry goods section.

I have another reefer buddy of mine who has experienced poor service every time he has gone there.

Couple this general stand-offishness towards the clientele and the high prices on most things there, and it makes the trip to Salty Critter, or buying online worth it.

I wouldn't scratch them, or any other store off the list.

However, I would definitely know what I was looking for, had no questions or doubts about what I wanted, and definitely need no help finding it if I went to Aqua Tech.

Jeff,

Not sure you should have to change your views to see "eye to eye" with any small business retailer.

The money you spend there helps to pay his salary and overhead.

I will sat that all of the fish that I have bought from aquatic technology have been very healthy and fairly priced.

Usually if i have a question or need something bagged up there, I look for Matt(Jim Morrison) on here....he's very helpful if asked....

I know any fish you get from AT will be healthy. Greg doesn't sell anything less. He won't sell a fish until it is eating ect after shipment. Not sure if other stores are like that but Greg has always. Greg also feeds quality food to all his fish. He loves what he does. Seems as if people have always had it out for him. Not sure why. Prices you have to shop around. If he is more on an idea then go somewhere else if you choose. I always like AT and Salty Critter.

At AT Greg knew me and I always talked to him and always got great Service from Greg himself. On the days he is off the employees use to slack off. The girls seemed stuck up at times like they were doing you a favor to help... But most of the time they would get what ever you needed as soon as you ask.

Salty Critter was nice and was a lot cheaper on coral sometimes. Store is much smaller so service is faster. Not as many places for people to be. Not many fish here it seemed like. But all pretty health.. Both nice stores. Loved both of them..

Wow.

I didn't know everybody loved Aquatic Technology and their overpricing and poor service so much.

This is one of the few establishments in my life where I have never been asked if I needed help with anything... ever. Has not happened just one time either.

This is by definition "poor service."

Also a sales clerk who acts like they are doing you a favor, is by definition "poor service."

Salty Critter is way cheaper on corals and their selection is better.

Live Rock at AT is higher also.

PirateFish we get it, Your not an AT fan. Others of us however are. The thread was started looking for an Akron area LFS, not tell your thoughts on AT
