Algae, a problem?

My tank's been set up for a little over a month and the water's testing fine, and I'm thinking about adding to the tanks population of 6 hermit crabs and 1 peppermint shrimp. But in addition to the algae that I'm having to clean off the glass, I'm getting green, greenish/brown algae on the bottom of the tank in patches on the live sand. My crabs and shrimp don't spend much time on the sand; they seem to like hanging out on the live rock. Should I be worried about the algae on the bottom, or do anything to eliminate it before adding anything new to the tank?

There's a ton of info about algae and stuff that looks like algae and what eats it...check out some of the posts in the "first time here" section.

I didn't stop having various annoying algae blooms till sometime after 6 months.
