Algae and pods....

While at work today, I was standing on a floating dock looking at the algae growth at the waterline. I decided I would check out what kind it was, normally I see Ulva (sp?) all the time, but this was different. It is very long and stringy, similar to hair algae maybe but much more coarse like chaeto. Picking through a small pinch of it, I found hundreds of Amphipods....some of them huge! I'm thinking I'm going to go get a good handful of this stuff for my fuge in hopes there will be some copepods in there too. I'm also curious if the tang will eat it, he isn't too fond of Ulva but will eat it. I'll look for an ID on the algae, anyone got some good links? I'm gonna look around for some pics.

Anyone else harvesting similar or other macros for their fuges or tanks? I've got tons of pods now but what can having more do?

you sure the algae won't spread to other parts of your tank?

I doubt it, it's macro just like the chaeto and "parsley" macros in the fuge now. We'll see, but it sure is loaded w/ pods! I'm going to see if my "pootie Tang" will eat it is what I'm most interested in.

hopefully there is nothing bad in there like oil/gas from boat motors or other chemicals.
