Algae Blenny Getting very skinny

FroMan

Insane in the Brain
I noticed today that my algae blenny has lost some weight. I'm starting to fear that he may be my first fatality.

I've tried offering him nori, but he doesn't seem to want to take it. I've put some pieces near his favorite hiding and perch spots, but he doesn't seem to want to take it.

I've also been feeding a little flake at the same time that I've been feeding the rest of the fish in my tank hoping that he may snack on that.

Has anyone had any luck getting this fish to eat artifical foods? Even though my tank is well established I'm not sure there is enough algae to support him any more. He seems to have plowed through everything in the tank!

A 55g tank will often not have enough microalgae to support an algae blenny. You'll have to supplement and hope that he's willing to try some of your additions.

IME, once they start losing weight, they're already on the downward slide. I had one in my 120. Ample algae to eat. He ate with gusto the first few weeks then simply stopped eating and wasted away. Never took any prepared foods, and wasn't being bothered by anyone. I won't get another one, and have heard many similar stories. Hope yours makes a comeback.

The steven liu and Sk8r - thanks for your suggestions guys. I'll see what the LF stores have available.

Wolverine Unfortunatly I found a couple threads that metioned the same thing after I had bought the fish.

Jerry W and localfreak - I'm going to at least give him a fighting chace!! $10 in food is worth it to at least try and keep him living!

Thanks for the input!!!
