Algae control problem

I recently xfered some live rock from a friend's tank that he was dismantling and he must of had some funk goin' on! Now I got the funk. I can scrape the walls of my tank in the morning and 6 hrs. after the light comes on the walls of the tank are green! I've never seen anything as agressive as this. I'm thinking about blacking out the tank for 72 hrs. or getting a diatom filter... or both. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks respectfully, Ray

Lights out may help but you need to address the source of the problem.
Start by testing and posting your parameters here. My guess is your nitrates are high.

Yes, has a UV sterilizer; Nitrates, Phosphates, Nitrites all zero. I've been at this for a while and I've never had anything so bad as this on an established tank. I even went to a 20K bulb thinking that my 10K was getting old (9 mos. old) and it's just as bad
