algae free

Hi Jason,

I just ordered the tigershark algae free magnet. I have an acrylic aquarium and it is 1/2" thick. Of course I must have skipped over the part how thick the acrylic needs to be for the magnet to work properly. I just saw tank size. Is the tigershark too strong for an 1/2" thick acrylic aquarium? Even with the acrylic safe pads will the magnet cause problems, ie scratch my aquarium?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

The Tiger would be okay for 1/2" but you would want to be extra careful since it will be very powerful, if even a small piece of gravel or worn edge on the felt might scuff or scratch it. It would clean more stubborn algae, but also be a little hard to move.

Many people prefer to oversize them a little, i personally like to have a little smaller so it glides easier and just clean more often before it gets the real tough stuff. We can exchange it if you want also.

Thanks Jason, I think I will just keep it and maybe attach the extra felt pad that comes with the magnet. This way I might be able to avoid a worn edge easier.

If it still too strong I could attach an extra acrylic safe pad for the inside (I ordered the hammerhead for my glass tank so I did not have to take the magnet out of one tank and put it in the other).

or maybe I won't have to do anything.

Thanks,

Mike
