algae growing from montipora

i have a superman danae and some ugly brownish green hair algae is growing from two spots of the frag. these things grow pretty fast. the frag is around an inch by inch while the spots are less than 1/4 inch by inch. my question is,

1.) will the montipora eventually encrust over it and lose it or will the algae take over?

2.) manual removal does not work (tweezers), is there another means of getting rid of the algae? such as setting my turbo snail right on top of it?

If you can seperate the frag, take a plastic container and put it in there along with the hermit's for a few day's . They will clean it up for you. In the tank of corse.

Its probably a bad sign that the algae is getting a foothold over the coral like that. Might want to figure out what's going on there.

Anyway, sometimes I buy dying frags from an LFS that have algae on them, and what I do is take the piece out, scrape away all the algae, especially any growing on the coral skeleton. Cover the entire affected area with a very thin layer of superglue gel, right up to the edge of the coral. If the coral is healthy and growing, it should grow right over the superglue. If algae does show up on the superglue, its easily brushed away with a soft toothbrush.

Coral's can defend themselves from most algae chemically. But not all algae are effected to the same extent. I've got some red hair algae that coral's just can't fight off. Other more common green algae is easilly killed back as the coral grows.

i'm having the sme problem on a digi. it seems that on the bottom facing portions the algea grows driectly on the skeleton. could i just use a tooth brush to get the algea off and seal it with super glue?

Algae usually grow on dead or becomming dead sps. If you wanna remove, you can blush out them. But I think the condition of that part of monti should be not good.

Sorry for the thread resurrection, but I'm having the same issue. Did the superglue/brushing work? My nitrates creeped up to about 15, so I've been doing a lot of water changes lately to get it back down.

Any other thoughts?
