I have purple coraline algae as well as some medium semi bright green algae starting to grow on my rocks. Tank is only about a month old. Bought an established 30 gallon and upgraded it to a 50. Algae growth a good sign? Bad?
this would all depend on the type of algae if it is a good sign or bad , coraline is good , but others such as hair algae or yet the dreadful bubble algae is a bad thing

today I noticed some diatom strands (or at least that's what i think it is) growing on the top of my chaeto. What could be the cause of this? Lack or water flow? Too much light? Nitrates?
