I have noticed that this algae stuff has been growing for quite some time, and I was wondering if it might take over.
After a loooong search on other algae threads, I found just a bunch of confusion. so let me start with some tank numbers:
100 gallon display tank
6 VHO
30 gallon sump with liverork, skimmer and chaeto.
5 gallon chaeto scrubber
35 gallon refugium with liverock, some unwanted GSP and more chaeto.
water quality:
every 2 weeks 18% water changes.
tank has last been moved 9 month ago (re-using same water)
Ammonia:0
Nitrate: 0
Nitrite: 0
DKH: 10.5
Calcium: 440
PH: 8.8
Clean up crew:
4-5 Mexican Turbo
6-7 hermit crabs (red legs)
3 "cone" snails
1-2 other snails
1 emerald crab
1 Flat spider crab (i don't know it's real name)
1 peppermint shrimp
1 unknown shrimp
I also run a little bit of activated carbon too.
Now some pics:
If I let it grow, it will eventually start turning brown and appear more like a short velved , fuzz look. This stuff does not come of with extra flow or turkey barter. The only thing that I think works is the mexican turbos.
This algae likes also the light and does not grow that much in the shaded places.
At-least I know that in the worst case scenario I could get a boat load of mexican turbos. :uzi:
