so I've been battling this for a couple weeks now and I'm just trying to get the correct identification of what I have going on and the best way to fix it. this amount came on in 3 days. Only appearing on sand bed for now.

Im coming out of a 72 hour blackout with a 25% water change after the black out. 20% w/c every week. all water params came back fine after the blackout and water change. filtration is purigen, chemi-pure, phosguard with protein skimmer. I make my own water with ro/di 0tds and reef crystals. 3 led strips on 6 hour light cycle then moon lights. temp 77F
Ive gone back and forth between brown algae and dino, but there is a lack of slime and bubbles for it to seem dinos. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

It looks like cyanobacteria to me. Its fairly common in new tanks and usually goes away on its own as the tank matures.

The tank has been up for about 5 months. It seems to be a much darker brown then the diatoms I had during my cycle. Without a power head focused on the sand bed, it becomes clumpy and nearly sheet like.
I know cyano can come in many colors, but my lfs didn't seem to think it was cyano based on the pic.

Normal IMO... I'm not sure exactly what its called.. but I see it all the time.
Its kind of a real short hair brown/green algae..

Welcome to a new tank.. Keep your nitrates/phosphates low and it will pass with time..

I just transferred my 40b to a 80G and I'm going through a bit of it now on the new sand,etc... My Kole Tang LOVES it.. And all my snails, urchin and cucumber too.. They make quick work of it..
