Algae ID?

Bent

Tell me this isn't bryopsis.

Nothing in the tank is touching it.

Well it ain't Cotton Candy :lmao:

Kinda looks like it sad to say. Will need a better picture for a positive id

I'd move that torch, it looks like the algae is bothering that head on the left side.

Could be bryopsis, It's just strange to be growing in clumps like that. Might be some type of algae specific to the Gulf of Mexico? Might want TBS Richard to take a look, send him a PM, see what he has to say.

Also what are all the white things on the rock to the right in the first picture?

At first glance, it looks like bryopsis to me but it's tough to tell without seeing a better close up. Does it look like it has fronds? Is it kind of stiff and tough to pull off the rocks? FWIW, I have seen many instances where bryopis does start out growing in clumps. It often starts with a small strand or spot of it and grows outewards from there in a clump like fashion.

To me this shot here does appear to be bryopis..

Well, today I'll pull a clump out and take some pics. It's just weird that with all the algae eating critters I have, no one is touching it.

Oh and the white things are tube worms I think. The tank is covered in them.

I could try killing the power heads and moving my sea hare up there for a couple days.

Most algae eating critters won't touch bryopsis in my experience.

I tried to solve the problem today.

Ugly? Yep. But at least it ain't bryopsis. Maybe it will smother it out.

Will this work to smother it out, or did I just waste my tube of epoxy?

It should help in smothering that patch assuming there aren't any pieces that around in the rock near it. That doesn't however mean or it will or won't pop up elsehere in your tank. It would have been good to get a positive ID on it though. Bryopsis typically has fronds. A close up of the clump outside the tank would have been helpful in making a positive ID. You might consider getting some Kent Tech M and increasing your MG using the tech M just to be sage and erradicate any possibility of there being bryopsis in your system. I had an outbreak years back and eliminated it with Tech M by increasing to 2000 MG over the course of a handfull of days. I went up 200mg a day and held it at around 2000 MG for a week or so and then let it come down on it's own. They bryopsis died off pretty quikcly and never returned.

What makes you think it's NOT bryopsis? I'm pretty sure that it is, also did you remove it before you used the putty?

That torch sure looks happier!

I think what he's saying is that he removed the clump of bryopsis and put epoxy over where it was to smother any remnants and at least the "epoxy" isn't bryopsis.

No what I meant was the putty isn't bryopsis.

I'm pretty sure the algae was.
