Just notice this stuff growing on my nano tank. Is it sea lettuce ulva lactuca ?? Or dictyota?? Or?? It doesn't seem to grow outwards and big just starting to carpet the rock. Leaves are small and round

Thanks!

Looks like the start of dictyota. Can you get it out and kill it with a wire brush and fresh water??

Hydrogen peroxide will do a much better job of killing it.

I just looked around and saw that it has spread into other rocks, so taking 1 rock out and cleaning is not going to do. I've read about h2o2 for algae, I used this method in FW systems without any issues. As for reef tanks I've read that most ppl do the treatment outside of the tank? Necessary? or can I just spot treat the areas?

Thanks.

Treating outside the tank is the most affective. You can try to treat the specific area in the tank as well. You can also treat the tank with a small amount.
The best long term is going to get rid of the excess nutrients in the tank. A very simple ATS with a red and blue LED grow light works wonders. I would light it 24/7 until the algae in your tank is well in decline. Other macro algae in the sump will also work, but not as well in my experience. When I had my ATS on 24/7 the cheeto in my sump all but disappeared.
I plan to post a thread this week in the DIY forum on ways to incorporate cheap ATS in to almost any system for $50 or less.

Thanks for the info.. I thought about adding an ATS but it's a small 20 gal nano AOI with limited space, I'll give the h2o2 a try.
