Algae in the fuge

Guys I always put sand in the refugium but I was thinking that especially for the chaeto algae it's better that the refugium will be BB, so it doesn't get dirty etc.

Are there people that have BB refugium's please?

My sump has a 'fuge section that's bare for the most part. I have a few pieces of rubble rock and chaeto, and that's it.

i have a 75 gal fuge, i use 3" substrate and cheato.

commander i dont know why it wouldnt work!
plus makes it easy to clean the detritus out from inside the fuge...

do you have a dsb in your main display?
bec if you do then it might be redundant to have 2dsb... i have a 3-5"dsb in main display then another 4-6" in the 50gal fuge... if i did it over again i wouldnt do a dsb in the fuge (since have it in the display) but i would still do a shallow sand bottom for pods etc - but thats just personal preference.

i have heard of people rinsing their chaeto to keep all the detritus from accumulating inside - but i havent ever done it

Does the caulerpa racemoza, known also as the the grape caulerpa will grow with a fuge without sand?
