I can see inside the intake on my maxima in the gill area it looks like there is algae growing on the gills. Ive notice this for probably 3-6 monhts now. I have had the clam about 1.5 years now. It almost looksjust like hair algae growing on the gills. has anyone ever seen this before. The clam seems othewise healthy, responsive and good color.

I will try to get one. I was pretty sure that would be asked for a pic.. I tried tonite for a short time but couldnt get one. Will try again tomorrow.

heres a pic of the subject clam.

Boy, that does look like it, doesn't it. I'm baffled about the algae!

I'm also slightly concerned about the mantle condition. It looks partially withdrawn and/or slight hyperextended. Was he spooked mid picture, or is that his normal condition.

Regarding the mantle, it is about normal for where its sitting. May be closed a little more than usual. I was playing with the flow a little trying to get a good pic. It shows a little better when its slightly retracted which could explain that. I added some flow recently and hes sitting in a little higher flow that I think he prefers and I expect that may also be part of it. I will probably be moving it soon once I decide on a spot.

that is strange! i dont think there is anything you can do other then normal algae control methods.

lol he has his own little nitrate factory going, talk about self sufficient.

sorry never seen that before
