algae on zoas

I moved into a new tank during July and acclimated my frags to the new lights, pc vs t5. The problem is some of the frags have alage on the polyps and these still have not opened. They have not melted away so I think they are still alive but after almost 6 weeks I am concerned. Any advice?
Thanks.

Remove the frags from the tank and remove the algae by hand. An old toothbrush works well on debersia (hair algae).
Just go gently.

Your tank probably has higher then normal nutrients. The addition of the new lights is helping the algae grow and with the existing nutrients they're growing like a weed.

Try doing some water changes, poly filter pads or carbon. If you use carbon, go sparingly and for only a few days. It can shock your system if overused and cause your animals to decline even more.

I had thought about the toothbrush method but just hadn't tried it yet. I do not have hair algae on the frags, more of a brown or green algae. I checked my nutrient levels and they are about the same as before but figure with the more intense lights there would be some algae. Last week I changed about 30 gal. of water and it seemed to help open a few others. I also have 1 bag of chemipure in the sump along with 2 fist size cheato clumps. Thanks.

I have turbo snails, blue legged hermits and a few others as a clean up crew. I used a toothbrush and got most of the algae off and I will do another round tomorrow. We shall see.....
