ok first, stats : 92 gal bowfront, with a 10 gal sump.
I have had my tank since April 2008. No problems until I switched out my mogul bulb. After that, there was a major algae bloom, and i am talking catastrophic. It killed everything except my candy cane coral. I am having problems stabilizing my tank.
I have since tried a different bulb, and there was no change, so I am assuming the bulb is not the problem. I also made the mistake of going to Walmart to get their RODI water, which I do not think they get their membranes replaced regularly. So, I think that is the problem. I have since bought my own RODI system from Bulk Reef Supply with outputs of 0 TDS.
I have tried buying surplus cleaner crews and Purigen with no results at all. The local expert is telling me to get my hands on a canister filter and inline it with GFO, or some type of phosphate removing chemical. The problem is, I am having a real problem getting my hands on a canister filter because I am lacking funds. Another local expert told me to monitor Alkalinity (to 9), Calcium(to 450), and PH(to 8.4).
Any recommendations? Any good canister filters you know of? Could you sell me a canister filter? lol I am really desperate at this point. I am getting tired of spending my weekends cleaning the algae out of my tank.
