I have a lot of algae in my 75g but I don't know why, my nitrates are 0 and I have a foxface +a cole tang. I change my water (20 gallons) and I leave my lights on for 8 hours every other week what should I do

What are your phosphate levels.

How often do you feed, and what type of food?

^^This to solve the problem and just turn the lights off a week or so for a temp fix. Fish don't need light.. Algae loves it.

Algae is fairly normal in a "new" tank and overfeeding is very common and food can contain high amounts of phosphates.

Lights off.. avoid overfeeding.. and running GFO are your best bets.

I prefer lights on manual removal. Lights off just inhibit the nutrients from becoming algae the issue is the nutrients the symptom is the algae. Always best to solve the issue and not treat the symptoms.

Lights off only works if you have a good skimmer/refugium to absorb the nutrients which after 10 months it is clear you need to decrease the amount of nutrients you put into the tank or increase the nutrient export capacity.

Better skimmer/add refugium/reduce feeding is the long term solution.
