algae problems!!! need some advice please!

i'm beefing up the clean up crew this weekend i found something that might work here is what i was thinking of going w/
currently prob 4 turbos and 4 blue leg hermits

this is what i was thinking !
20 dwarf ceriths
9 nassarius
12 florida ceriths
7 blue leg hermits
4 large nerite

hows that look??

I'd add a turbo or two also.

GFO is granular ferric oxide (fancy name for rust) and Bulk Reef Supply is where I get mine. GFO will need to be slowly tumbled in a media reactor otherwise it will start to clump. I would try this along will manual removal to see if that helps. Also, try cutting back on the feeding and light period for a little while and see if that helps.

Also how old are your bulbs?

both bulbs are just over a month old!

well did another water change today 10 gallons instead of 5 wanted to just use all my water so i could fill everything up at once and this time around i got alot of algae out!! the algae thats in there now is not looking to healthy and i'm no longer getting algae on the glass ! i might finally be winning this war! hopefully in the next few weeks its all gone and i can start restocking!

I would bet PO4 is the problem. Without PO4 algae or cyano will not grow. Unfortunately does not take a lot of PO4 to allow algae growth. Unless you get a very sensitive test even with a reading of 0 you still may have enough PO4 to allow algae growth. Fortunately if you have an already low PO4 level it is easy to reduce it even further. GFO works very well. If you don't have space for a GFO reactor, try a poly pad in your filter or other PO4 reducing materials and see what happens. It is a cheap thing to try. I bet it will work.

i'll deff look into something when i'm at the LFS sat! but after the water change tonight it seems i have taken the lead in the war and hopefully will continue to win but will look for all the help i can get to make it easier!!

so i found a mini phos reactor i think the brand was TLF Posban Reactor any pros cons heard anything its only 40 bucks what do you think!

Algae will still grow pretty well when you run GFO. Did you ever get something to consume the algae?

i'll be going back this weekend ! there supposed to get a big shipment in Friday i guess there trying to keep there inventory down cause there closing for a few days for the holiday!
