Algae Questions

Ok, a couple of days ago I came home and I had like a brown algae on the glass, returns, and on the seio...I cleaned it and it has come back a bit...

Also, on a few of my rocks it is a red colored algae and there is some on the overflow and when scraping the glass it was on there a bit...However, it is like powder...It was scraping off like coraline algae??? I have been reading some articles about cyano but it's not slimey at all...

I will have pics tomm.

I have a few questions after reading the articles:

#1 I run my lights for (actinics-9 hours and whites-7 hours) but from reading lighting doesn't really play a part.

#2 I don't overfeed...I have even held off on feeding my corals for the time being.

#3 One thing that I just did was when doing a water change last wed. or thurs. was I dug the hose into the sand and stir it around a bit...There seemed to be some feedback as though I should not be doing that...Let the snails and stars take care of it and just do the top???

#4 I do about 30% water change every 10 days or so...However, I did about a 38% last week...Could this have caused the algae bloom??? Is this too big of a water change?

#5 I did move my returns and seio around a bit since everyone says it hates flow...

#6 My water parameters are this and all my corals, fish, etc... look fine???

Ammonia-0
Nitrite-0
Calcium- 360
KH- 11-12ish
Nitrate- 15ish
PH-8.1 (monitor)

Running Chemi-Pure
I don't have a phosphate test but I put what I had left of phosguard in...

Am I doing something wrong or is this just growing pains of a new tank?

Sorry for all the questions but thanks for the help!

I'd call it growing pains. If it's not taking over EVERYTHING then it may just be a phase. I just went through one right before I moved.

#1 i have my actinics on for like 14 hours and whites on for 6

#2 feed less even though you dont think that you are over feeding

#3 dont do that

#4 do bigger... the bigger the better

#5 flow is good. i left my tank without much flow for 2 weeks and it went to hell. last week i left it with great flow and everything is great

#6 i bet you have super high nutients in the water with all those fish
growing pains are usually super good coraline growth and coral growth. with the water becoming super clear.
