Algae scrubber question.

Ok so I have had my scrubber up and running for a month. I did make a change to it though about two weeks ago.
One I started off with the larger mesh size not the smaller.
Two I couldn't say no to my 4 year-old daughter when she grabbed the purple mesh.
Well I replaced the mesh with the opaque smaller mesh. I have had the light on 24hrs a day. Even though I'm getting good growth on the mesh. I'm also getting cyno growth on the glass surrounding where the hits beyond the scrubber it self. I've been siphoning out what I can when I do my weekly water change.
Question is do I cut back on the amount of hours on the light?
Say to only be on when tank lights go off to when they come back on in the maine tank?
I have to say I have no nuisance algae in my tank at all. I'm glad I decided to set this up.
Sorry not the best pics but I think it helps with my question.

Thanks
Paul

I had an extra piece of the plastic background that you would put on the back of your tank. Since it is opaque and flexible I used it to make a corral around where the scrubber is and this has eliminated nuisance algae growing anywhere except on the mesh.
