Algae scrubber with caeto reactor.

Just more equipment. Nothing really "wrong" with it. However, it will mean that you now have two sources of nutrient export; which will split half of the production up. Perhaps great if you have really high nutrient problems, but I would think that running them at the same time would take away efficacy from one or the other, or even both. Running just one should be more then enough for your needs.

I would expect the would work, but the extra spaced and money needed could probably be used on something else to greater effect.

One will out compete the other, I tried it just to see and the Algae scrubber always grows while the Chaeto just dies off slowly and breaks apart making a mess.

I am in the process of adding a sump with an ATS, meanwhile I have a CPR HOB sump packed like a brick with cheato. Since they will get flow equally from the DT, I am presuming both will work , albeit competing against each other - along with the corals and algae.

If they are sequential- the first one in line of the flow is sure to out compete the second.

Also, ATS can be sized to how much you feed your fish (not water volume ) and you can put it on a timer.

I want both since the cheato is a safe haven for the pods which eventually feed the mandarin.

I'll be posting the progress in the nano forum.

The following isn't exactly unbiased (written by a vendor) but may be helpful:

Yea I'd take that with a huge grain of salt considering who wrote it, and his back to all the number claims being "this is what people have said".

Both options seem capable, there are a ton of ATS out there to buy, not as many reactors but the Pax Bellum one seems to really pull out a ton of nutrients too. Plus DIY reactors are about as easy of a DIY project as you can get.
