I recently got a 24 gallon tank and just put my first few fish into the tank and within the fist week i already have green grassy hair like algae growing on the glass and on the bottem all over the sand. I cleaned the filter and put in Phos-Guard..also i have 2 hermet crabs which seem to help but not much...any ideas???

how many hours a day are your lights on? is the tank near a window? how often do you feed your tank? how many fis are in the tank? what are your tank params? how long has the tank been set up?

my bro had that same problem. all he did was take out the rocks with the algae on em n scrubbed all of it off with a scrub brush. he also kept the lights off for most of the day.
