AlgaeFix Marine to control Hair Algae

So I noticed that there is 0 algae in my tank but also my macro algae in the sump became thin as if it's dying. That is the only side effect.
While I was treating my tank of GHA I had the skimmer all the time when dosing. Now am only dosing the chemical once a week which I will eventually stop and see what happens while I continue to improve on my tank husbandry

I have a nasty byropsis. Tried Algaefix several times. It would knock it down, but as soon as I switched to maintenance dose it would come back.
Tried TechM and was seeing the same result. However after my 2nd TechM treatment I got a Quoyi Parrotfish. It has kept the algae mowed down to where it is almost gone and the algae keeps him nice and fat.
The parrotfish is by far hands down the best herbivore that I've ever had!

If I was dosing vodka(and I am) I would not need the Algaefix?
Are you also running Gfo to remove phosphates. Carbon dosing is effective a nitrate reducing but you need to run Gfo along with it to bring the phosphates to a very low level

Hi all, I moved a couple of months ago and went from a 90g to a 125g, everything was good for about a month or so then I started getting brown dusting over rocks and sand with bubbles all over but not snotty like dino's. I'm going to give AF marine a try because it worked on the green stuff a couple of years ago when this thread was started. I have mostly sps a couple lps and all growing well for the most part. I think 30 pages back someone said it worked on dino's....I don't know we'll see.

I will keep everyone updated, on my progress.
I will use this piece of LR, closer to the front, as the subject. It is only one of 3 pieces, that have any GHA on it. I have always done regular water changes (10g per week), run GFO and do not feed the reef a lot. I am thinking, it's coming from the Reef Roids I use, once every 2 weeks. All others params are in order. I run my 6 bank T5 lights, 9hrs per day (2 lights on at dawn 1/2hr, the rest on, for 8 hrs, 2 for 1/2hr run at dusk) Includes: 2 ATI Blue Plus, 1 ATI Coral Plus, 2 ATI Aquablue Special, 1 ATI Purple Plus. All changed at 6 months (these last changed 1 month ago)
I also run 2 sets of blue moonlights, designed for my Apex controller, on Lunar cycle.
I recently moved my 75g, roughly 8 months ago, to our new place. I never had GHA, at the other location. All Pukani LR, from BRS. Change GFO, every month.
I dosed last night, 1 3/4 tsp or roughly 9.5 ml for my 95g system (this includes my sump) I dosed in my return, in the sump, not directly in my display. At this point, all inhabitants are very healthy and happy. 2 False Percs, 2 Blue-Green Chromis, 1 Coral Beauty, 1 Sweet Lips, 1 Yellow Eye Kole Tank, 1 Starry Blenny...plus misc CUC. I also keep Cheato, in my sump. Pretty large size, roughly the size of a soccer ball. Will keep an eye on that. Light for Cheato on at night, off in the morning...manual. I also dose BRS Alk & Cal. Had to dose Mag only once...it keeps in check. Keep Temp at 78.9 (goes to 77.8 at night) - Sal at 1.025.

You might want to try carbon dosing with vodka to clear that up

Just started dosing algaefix to try to curb an epic ha problem in my 6month old 180. I started it with quarried stone and didn't cook it silly me. Im on my second dose and already notice the algae turning a lighter color at the ends. I've got a feeling all the rock will end up being pulled and cooked, but I'd like to try to this route first. If anything it will hopefully postpone the inevitable.

It really looks like the GHA is dying off a bit. Notice the more bleached look, on the tips. The other LR I can notice a difference also. I did notice, my RBTA, is not fully extended today. THe pic below, shows the test subject rock, with my GBTA. No problems with it.

I fought GHA since feb '14 and started dosing algaefix last tuesday. i tried everything in the book prior to chemical treatment (remove old sand, scrub rocks, starve tank, reduce lighting/ nutrients, etc..) after 3rd dose, i have almost zero algae in the tank. coincidence? probably not. im sold on this stuff, wish i would have though about this sooner, i have used in in my pond with success in the past. no negatives from my limited use of this product in my mixed reef.

I started dosing algaefix a week ago to curb a huge algae bloom. Being the impatient kind of guy that I am I've dosed just about every day. Huge improvement in my tank so far. I'd say there's only about 30% of the hair algae left compared to last week. I think I'll keep up the regimen until Wednesday when hopefully my algae blenny will be in.

Don't do that. Algaefix is a poison. When I dosed algaefix back in Novermber, I eventually set it on a doser to only dose it once a week as a maintenance dosage after all of the algae was gone. When I hit save, it changed it to dose every day, a glitch in the RKE software version - I didn't know. It took me a few weeks to figure out what was killing all of my acropora corals and finally figured it out when the bottle was halfway gone. While I did later correct it by switching the RKE output to multi-timer, it still proved that algae fix can be over-dosed by dosing daily. My losses were across almost every acropora coral in the tank and were seen as a slow STN progression.

Sorry for your loss.
How can you blame your situation on the AlgaeFx when the dosage was exceeded?

Please reread. I was warning the poster above not to dose every day because it can do harm to livestock and what resulted in my own tank when a dosing problem occurred and it dosed every day. I don't blame algaefix for my losses or even my RKE because I could have double-checked. I think algaefix is a good product and is one of the few that does what it says that it does without unwanted consequences.
